WindSprite 26 Design Information

WindSprite Plan Elevation

The design combines long waterlines, a flat run aft, a favorable displacement / length ratio, and an ample but easily controlled sail plan. With an asymmetric spinnaker, planing and surfing performance is attained in moderate breezes. The seven eights fractional rig has single swept-back spreaders and an adjustable backstay. The jib is on a roller-furler and the mast position allows a track for a self-tacking jib as an option. Dacron sails and aluminum spars are specified to keep costs realistic.

Lapstrake planking, besides being aesthetically appealing and structurally simple, contributes to a hull that is dry, stiff, and light. The plywood frames have doublers to add gluing surface; they join in a self- aligning, “egg-crate” fashion to longitudinal frames that extend to the keel plank and form a rigid, girder-like structure. Together with longitudinal . stringers, which simplify planking, the construction system has a very favorable strength-to-weight ratio.
